BOYDEN PUBLIC LIBRARY INTERNET ACCESS GUIDELINES/POLICY
Welcome to the Boyden Public Library’s Internet Access. The library strives to enrich the process of life-long learning for all the community. Our mission is to provide access to materials, services, and information, which help residents of Boyden and the surrounding area meet their personal, educational and professional needs.
The internet at the Boyden Public Library is not to be used for unethical, unauthorized or illegal purposes. Internet use to obtain criminally violent, classified, or pornographic information is expressly forbidden. Respecting these principles will help keep this resource available to you and all the community to share.
The library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the internet, and cannot be held responsible for its content. The library patrons use it at their own risk.
All Internet resources accessible through the library are provided equally to all library users. All library Internet users must have a current library card issued from the Boyden Public Library. Parents and guardians, not the library or its staff are responsible for the Internet information selected and or/accessed by their children.
The use of the internet is a privilege and not a right. By signing the agreement form for the Boyden Public Library’s Internet access Agreement, you are agreeing to abide by all the rules outlined in the agreement. All patrons under 18 will need to have a parent/guardian signature on our Internet Access Agreement form. If you don’t understand any portion of the agreement, please ask the library staff to clarify the rule. Internet use is denied if a patron is responsible for an outstanding bill on library materials. Privileges will be restored when the bill has been satisfied or all materials are returned in good condition.
Use of the Internet is on a first come, first served basis. A time limit of 30 minutes is allowed. If a patron has already had computer privileges in a days time, they may be asked to give up their spot to someone who has homework to do, or who has not previously been on the computer during that day. If a patron does not show respect to the librarian they will be asked to leave. There will only be one person allowed per computer.
A network printer is located at the front desk. Printed copies cost 20 cents per page for black and white copies. Users will pay before printing at the front desk.
You may not use your own software programs. This will help prevent computer viruses.
Absolutely no food or drink is allowed in the computer area.
Misuse of computer or Internet access will result in the loss of your computer privileges. Loss of access and length of suspension is at the discretion of library staff. This will include, but is not limited to:
a. Displaying offensive messages or pictures
b. Using obscene language
c. Damaging computer systems or computer networks
d. Harassing, insulting, or attacking others
e. Violating copyright laws
Library staff cannot provide in-depth training concerning Internet access, computer jargon, or computer use. We may, however, be able to offer searching suggestions and answer questions.
